|Burnell Stanley Rodgers 90, of Shenandoah passed away Saturday June 28, 2014
She was the born on February 18, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Irvin D. and Virginia McAlister Stanley. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Walter J. Stanley and Elwood “Dick” Stanley.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shenandoah and a former member of the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was a Medical Technician in the Army Air Corp during WWII. She also worked at the Shenandoah Knitting Mill and the Alliance Corp then became a homemaker for the past forty one years. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
On June 28, 1947 she married John “Johnny” E. Rodgers who survives; they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this past Saturday.
In addition to her husband she is survived by son, Stephen Rodgers, and wife Debbie; daughter, Linda Shifflett and husband Ray both of Shenandoah; five grandchildren, Wes Shifflett and wife, Melissa, Chrissy Rodgers, Monica Rodgers and companion, Ryan Gaunt, Michael Shifflett, Elaine Sullivan and husband, Larry; Seven great grandchildren, Brennan Shifflett and Logan Gaunt, Lindsey Sullivan, Christanna Sullivan, Kaytie McCoy, Cole McCoy and Michael Shifflett, Jr.; one sister, Catherine Housden and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6~8 at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday morning at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with Rev. Stephen Creech and Larry Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.
