Frederic Adair Amburn

Frederic Adair Amburn, of Winchester, VA, passed from this life to the next on March 27, 2010, of complications from a stroke. 

 

He was born on March 2, 1930, in Pulaski, VA.  Fred graduated from Pulaski High School in 1949 and attended Bluefield Junior College.  He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954.  Fred’s career in advertising started at the Southwest Times in Pulaski and continued as Advertising Manager at the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg for fifteen years. Afterward, he held several different positions in sales.  In retirement, Fred continued to work as a driver for Rubbermaid, Inc., and most recently with City Delivery of Winchester, VA. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg.

 

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Molli and Ron Ellis of Louisa, his daughter, Angela Amburn, of Charlottesville, his daughter, Tamara Amburn, of Montpelier, and his daughter, Alicea Amburn, of New York, NY.  Also surviving is a granddaughter, Carly Amburn, of Charlottesville and James Madison University.  Fred leaves a sister-in-law, Gladys Amburn of Culpeper, and a number of nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.

He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Thomas, who has been adopted by his caring neighbors.

Sobriety has been a big part of Fred’s life since 1974, and he leaves many friends who have celebrated recovery with him over the years.  He was a sports fan, a fisherman, a lover of history, and an internet newspaper reader.

 

Family graveside services will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, March 30, 2010.

 

The Family will receive friends at Kyger Funeral Home, 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA, on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, from noon to 1:30 PM.

 

A Celebration and Memorial Service will follow at the same location at 2:00 PM.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the local chapter of the American Heart/American Stroke Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA   23060, or to GSO, Box 459, Grand Central Station, NY, NY   10163.

Having been through similar times, I feel that the best thing I can say is that
he is a part of you now and always. We don't vanish, we live on in the people
