Walter Harold Dean

Walter Harold Dean, 74, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, in Elkton.

Mr. Dean was born Feb. 16, 1935, in Rockingham County and was the son of the late Walter Donald and Mary Yancey Crawford Dead.

Harold was a lifelong resident of the Elkton area and was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an electrician by trade and a member of the Local Union No. 24 in Baltimore, Md.

On Dec. 21, 1955, he married Lillie Marie Lam, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Debra Dean Harris of Weyers Cave; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Purdham of Stanardsville, Catherine Leigh of Charlottesville and Doris Dean of Elkton; one grandson, Nathaniel Beasley; and three great-grandchildren, Anthony, Lakota and Kiah Beasley. Besides his parents, Harold was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin \"Odell\" Dean, James Scott Dean and Fred Dean; and grandsons, Anthony Eugene Beasley and Jeremy Ross Beasley.

A funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Saturday evening, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Travis Hensley officiating. Burial will be private.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service. Friends may also call at the home of Mary Lam (Lillie\'s mother) in Elkton at anytime.

Harold was as steady and strong as they come. We knew each other as school boys
in Berrytown, met again not long ago and were easily able to erase the years
between. His wise, jovial approach to life was unusual and not matched by many.
It is terrible that he is gone. Deep condolences to Lillie.

Was so sorry to hear of Mr. Dean's passing.We knew he had been so very ill and
now is at rest with the Lord. May you all gain strength from this and hold each
