Viola Marie Berry, 93, of Harrisonburg, and formerly of Elkton, passed away Dec. 27, 2009, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Berry was born March 26, 1916, in Harrisonburg, and was the daughter of the late John and Mary Morris McDaniel.
She grew up in the Swift Run area near Elkton. She was a homemaker and a member of the Grottoes Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed shopping, visiting and spending time with family.
Her husband, George Norman Berry, preceded her in death. Mrs. Berry is survived by sons, Delmas Berry and wife, Linda, of Burlington, W.Va., Wilmer Berry and wife, Alva, of Elkridge, Md.; daughters, Carrie Bentley of Elkridge, Md., Mildred Terry of Old Towne, Md., Mattie Gibson of Staunton and Gladys Berry of Grottoes; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Berry; a brother, Harry McDaniel; and sisters, Della Shifflett, Dorothy Burton and Lillian Morris.
The Rev. Roger Hart will conduct the funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville.
The family will receive friends today (Tuesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
