Elza Elwood Shifflett, 80, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 9, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Shifflett was born June 26, 1929, in Beldor near Elkton, and was the son of the late Angus and Grace Hansbrou gh Shifflett.
Elza attended the Beldor Roadside School near Elkton and Fort Steilacoom Community College. He was a 20-year U.S. Army veteran, serving three tours in the Korean War, one in Vietnam and was also stationed in France and Germany. He was a life member of the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292 and was also an avid reader, enjoyed sports and bluegrass music.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Shifflett and wife, Marci Leong, of Bellevue, Wash., Franklin C. Shifflett and wife, Traci, of Leavenworth, Kan., and Allen J. Shifflett and wife, Alice, of Spanaway, Wash.; a sister, Juanita Lam and husband, Leon, of Elkton; brothers, Donald \"TT\" Shifflett of Elkton and Lebert Shifflett of Shenandoah; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Shifflett, and brothers, Howard, Nelson \"Tut\", Ray and Dale Shifflett.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton with the Rev. Carter Dean officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Run Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the home of his sister, Juanita Lam, at anytime.
